THE BETA DECAY OF 48Mn Improved data on Gamow-Teller quenching

The very proton-rich nuclide 48Mn, produced in ‘2C(40Ca, p3n) reactions, was investigated using on-line mass separation combined with singles and coincidence spectroscopy of P-delayed y-rays and protons. Compared to the previous 48Mn decay work, a more accurate value of 158.1 (22) ms was obtained for the half-life, y singles, yy-coincidence and proton singles data were improved, and proton-y coincidences were measured for the first time. A revised %r level scheme is proposed. The experimentally deduced Gamow-Teller strength distribution is compared with predictions from shell-model calculations.
